Canada Post has announced delivery interruptions for North Bay as a precautionary measure over COVID-19.

Officials tweeted that the North Bay depot and post office will not be processing mail and parcels today (March 27th).

It means there won’t be any delivery of mail in North Bay and downstream communities.

A sign posted on the door of the outlet at Ferguson and Worthington says they’re closed until at least Monday.

“I received a call last night from the Labour Relations department of Canada Post advising me that a presumptive positive case was identified that had been in the post office, the last time they were there was March 17th,” says Mark Evard, National Director for CUPW Central Region.

He says the person is a post office employee who works in the depot.

“The post office will be professionally cleaned today. We will be taking our direction from the public health authority. All measures currently being taken are out an abundance of caution due to the current situation,” he says.

Just after noon Canada Post announced a deep cleaning and thorough sanitization of their Worthington Street facility is underway.

This after they say an employee was notified yesterday (Thursday) by the hospital that they tested presumptive postive for COVID-19.

Employees were told to stay home to await further direction.

They say mail and parcels are not being delivered today, with regular services scheduled to resume on Monday, pending the direction of public health officials, and in consultation with their joint local health and safety committee.
