Canada Post says a deep cleaning and thorough sanitization of their Worthington Street facility is underway.

This after they say an employee was notified yesterday (Thursday) by the hospital that they tested presumptive positive for COVID-19.

Employees were told to stay home to await further direction.

Mail and parcels are not being delivered today, with regular services scheduled to resume on Monday, pending the direction of public health officials, and in consultation with their joint local health and safety committee.

CUPW officials earlier told our newsroom they were notified of the presumptive positive case last night.

The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board says those receiving their payments by Direct Bank Deposit will continue to do so through their bank and will not be affected by the post office closure.

People who normally receive their cheques by mail will have them delivered by Purolator throughout the District and that includes recipients, landlords and vendors.

For people who normally receive their mail at a PO Box, cheques will be delivered to the address they have provided and not the post office in their communities.

The DNSSAB strongly encourages all people receiving cheques from the organization to set up Direct Bank Deposit to prevent any future delivery delays.
