A local dog trainer is looking to help residents get their canine friends involved in supporting front-line workers.

Eric Russell and Animal Touch Rehabilitation are running the ‘Honk For Hope’ initiative with training videos to teach your dog to honk a bike horn on their Facebook page.

He says it’s a contest too, with people encouraged to send them videos over the next month.

“Whoever has really trained it the best, anything that’s going to stand out above the rest, and they’re going to be awarded a prize. Lisa’s Dog House has donated a prize, it’s a bunch of yummy little snacks for your dog,” he tells BayToday.

Russell says it’ll take some time to train this behaviour.

He says they just wanted to involve their canine friends in honouring essential workers and came up with the idea.
