All of the Nipissing Lakers sports award winners have been honoured.

The University wrapped up their virtual awards on Friday announcing their Athletes of the Year are a couple of nordic skiers.

The men’s winner is Alex Maycock while women’s honours go to Emily Drake.

Female Rookie of the Year is Malory Dominico in women’s hockey while Male Rooke of the Year is volleyball player Jackson Young.

Jack and Mary Ann Jones Female Athlete of the Year – Emily Drake
Emily Drake had her best season as a member of the Nipissing Lakers Nordic Skiing team in 2019-20.
She put an exclamation mark on that outstanding season the weekend of the OUA Championships in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Stratford, Ontario native claimed a total of three medals and four top-10 finishes.
She earned a silver on Day 1, 7th place on Day 2 and helped her team to a bronze medal on Day 3. She also claimed an overall bronze, as the women’s team finished third overall.
Drake also took home a gold medal at the Ontario Cup race hosted in North Bay in January, as well as 13th (8th in OUA) at the North American Cup in Gatineau, QC in mid-December.
And in the final race prior to her outstanding OUA Championship, Drake skied to 11th place in Mont Ste. Anne, QC, at the Canada’s World Junior/U23 Championship Trials.
In her third year at Nipissing in the BPHE program, Drake really impressed on trails this year.

Al Carfagnini Male Athlete of the Year – Alexander Maycock
Alexander Maycock is capping off another impressive season, as he continued his strong career as a member of the Lakers Nordic Skiing team.
The Orangeville, ON native was the top skier on the men’s side throughout the 2019-20 season, which was highlighted by his strong OUA Championship effort, claiming a total of four medals.
The junior, enrolled in the BPHE program, wrapped up his third season in style, winning bronze medals on Day 1 and 2, silver in the team relay on Day 3 and helped the Lakers men’s team secure third overall, for another bronze on the championship weekend in Sault Ste. Marie.
To open the season, Maycock began the year with a 4th place finish (1st OUA) in Gatineau, QC at the North American Cup.
Mayock claimed a gold medal in January in North Bay, gliding to a championship at the Ontario Cup race hosted in the Gateway City.
And in the final race of the season before the OUA Championships, Mayock cracked the top-10 in Mont Ste. Anne, QC, at the Canada’s World Junior/U23 Championship Trials.
