National unemployment has reached it’s second highest level, at 13 percent in April.

Stats Canada says that’s up from 7.8 percent in March after the full force of the pandemic hit.

The Canadian economy lost almost two million jobs in April, a record high, as the closure of non-essential services to slow the spread of COVID-19 devastated the economy.

As for the North Bay area, unemployment was 9.2 percent in April.

But, no comparison can be made to last year because the figure in April 2019 was suppressed.

It was below the confidentiality threshold.
