Another daycare centre has opened locally for front line workers to access child care services.

MPP Vic Fedeli says Friends Forever Childcare Centre joins several other facilities including North Bay Daycare Centre, YMCA Mother St. Bride Centre, YMCA Woodland Early Learning and Child Care Centre in North Bay, and Fairview Early Learning and Child Care Centre in Powassan, as available centres.

This year’s Summer Challenge theatre production has been cancelled.

The announcement came in a letter to parents last week.

Officials say the difficult decision was made in light of current health and safety guidelines and safety precautions along with the fact school buildings will remain closed for the rest of the school year.

With safety their top priority, they say they can’t adequately plan and prepare for all the elements involved when producing the event for the public.

However, they also say Summer Challenge will be back next year.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority says the Mattawa Island Conservation Area and its beach are now open.

However, the washrooms as well as the tennis, basketball and volleyball courts remain closed.

Keep in mind, any one using the beaches and trails must maintain a physical distance of at least two metres (six ft) from any other person other than those with whom they live and social gatherings of more than five people remain prohibited.

Last week, the Elks Beach Conservation Area and the Eva Wardlaw Conservation Area were opened.

Earlier, the boat launches at the Papineau Lake Conservation Area near Mattawa and on Lake Nipissing at Chippewa Creek were open.
