Expect to see more water and sewer work getting underway soon on Pinewood Park Drive.

Services will be extended after council awarded the $1.7 million contract to Canor Construction on Tuesday night.

Deputy Mayor Tanya Vrebosch joined a chorus of councillors who say encouraging development is good for the city right now.

“We are in COVID or unprecedented times, but the thing is we’re not stopping, we’re very mindful of the budget but we also need to move forward to make sure that we spur economic development, that we get back up on our feet. This is a good move to get the development going at that end of town,” she told Council.

Councillor Chris Mayne says this supports the casino development (pictured).

“Number one it facilitates the expected opening of the casino, December or January, completes and agreement we have with them to provide the service, they are about approximately one-third funding partner in this,” he told Council on Tuesday night.

It also supports potential future development further down the road.

A staff report says this project includes the extension of approximately 280m of sanitary sewer and 200m of watermain including the addition of a left turn lane into the casino property.
