Wednesday night’s fatal fire on Pinewood Park Drive is not believed to be suspicious, at this time.

That from Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders who says the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office will work with North Bay Fire Investigator Joe Gardiner and city police to determine the cause.

Fire crews were dispatched just after 9:30 to 13 Pinewood Park Drive last night.

“When crews arrived on scene there was significant smoke coming from the home, the priority is always rescue so they did a search of the building and unfortunately did find a victim in the building,” Saunders says.

Fire fighters carried the victim out to the paramedics.

“The paramedics last night, the work that they did in the back of the ambulance trying to save this poor man was incredible quite frankly, they really worked tirelessly to try and save this man,” Saunders says.

In fact, he says paramedics worked for 45 minutes to try and save the victim, but the smoke inhalation was too severe and he passed away was at the scene.
