The city’s parking garage on McIntyre Street is getting fixed up.

At the last council meeting, a $465,000 contract was awarded to Brook Restoration Ltd. to provide repairs and waterproofing.

Three councillors voted against the motion including Mac Bain.

“Council made the wrong decision previously by keeping the garage a number of years ago instead of selling it. I’m not in favour of this motion because we shouldn’t be owning this structure,” he says.

Chair of Infrastructure and Operations Councillor Chris Mayne says the repairs are needed because a recent survey indicated moisture and salt are accelerating corrosion of the structure. He says the work needs to be done so more expensive repairs are prevented in the future.
