The YMCA is still looking for participants for their free Digital Inclusion, Seniors Connection and Opportunities (DISCO) Hub.

Health Fitness and Aquatics Supervisor Rhonda Croghan says they’ve partnered with The Village at Canadore College for the four week registered program.

“It’s all about teaching seniors how to use technology safely through educational workshops, providing a way to connect seniors to their families by lending devices and just to get them connected with the technology world,” she says.

“If they have any questions about any of their devices we do give one-on-one help with them, how to upload pictures, we even taught somebody how to text on their cellphone,” Croghan adds.

There’s also a short workout session.

The first DISCO Hub session was held this morning.

“We gave out some surveys and some of the comments that came back, were we’re very patient with them and they loved that, we just love helping out and teaching. Another thing is that the one-on-one is very helpful with them too,” Croghan says.

The YMCA has partnered with The Village at Canadore to offer the program, with support from the North Bay and Area Community Foundation.

Officials say registration is required so they can maintain physical distancing.

The YMCA and Canadore College are working closely with Public Health to ensure all necessary safety procedures are in place.
