This hasn’t not been a typical year due to COVID-19 and that’s reflected in the annual Hike For Hospice event.

Executive Director of The Nipissing Serenity Hospice Gil Pharand says after cancelling the regular event earlier this year they will be holding a virtual event over Thanksgiving weekend.

He says it’s called Hike From Home For Hospice and people can hike in a number of ways.

“They can take a walk, a hike, a run or bike ride. They can do it around the block, elsewhere in the city or on an area trail. It’s great exercise and you can support a good cause too,” Pharand says.

He says to register yourself or a team go to www.nipissing serentyhospice.ca/hike.

Pharand says they have a fundraising goal of $50,000.

He says they have to fundraise 40 % of their operation and this event is very important.

Pharand says it’s been a busy first year.

“We’ve had 50 residents come through since we opened earlier this year and there’s been some great people. It’s important for us to raise funds in our community to provide the services that we provide,” Pharand says.
