The North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce is among the organizations across the country promoting the Canada United Shopping Weekend.
The campaign encourages residents to show some local love by buying, dining and shopping local.
Peter Chirico is President and CEO of the North Bay Chamber.

“We want to give back to those merchants who have shut down and are trying to recover. They’re trying to stay strong for our communities and this is our way of saying thank you,” Chirico says.

The national chamber network, the Royal Bank of Canada and more than 65 of Canada’s leading brands are all in support of the campaign.

Chirico says our local businesses have been through a lot.

“My hat is off to the small business owners. They have done a terrific job in adapting their business to make sure their employees are safe and are working.,” he says.

He says many have had to innovate to compete.

Mayor Al McDonald says he’s proclaimed this weekend as Canada United Shopping Weekend.

And if you buy local this weekend you can win one of 25 $10,000 prizes at gocanadaunited.ca/win.
