An outpouring of shock and sadness on social media after the passing of Councillor Mike Anthony.

BayToday confirms Anthony passed away yesterday at the age of 52.

The former radio broadcaster, who worked in our newsroom in the 1990s, was in marketing and communications and was the longest sitting current city councillor.

He was first elected in 2000 and was in his sixth term on council.

Anthony’s biography on the city’s website says he was Vice-Chair of council’s Engineering and Environmental Works Committee, and in the past has served as Chair of the Community Services Committee.

He has also acted as Vice Chair of the General Government Committee.
