North Bay’s Deputy Mayor wants to see people recognized for the work they do for the city before they pass away.

Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says fellow councillor Mike Anthony, who died on Wednesday, did so much for his community.

“This is something we need to start looking at is recognition of council members past and present and putting something in place. I want to see something done for Mike as the longest serving sitting council member, he should be recognized in more than just a lowering of flags,” Vrebosch says.

“To me I don’t think you should have to pass on before the community says thank you for the time that you’ve put in to serve them. (Former Mayor) Jack Burrows, how many years has it been since he passed and we just renamed the civic square after him,” she adds.

‘Jack Burrows Place’ is the civic square right in front of the North Bay Museum.

Vrebosch notes work is underway to honour former Councillor George Maroosis, who served the city in a number of ways over three decades.
