More information is expected this week on the Rural and Northern Immigration pilot program.

President and CEO of the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce Peter Chirico says COVID-19 has delayed things a bit but they will be launching a web site as early as this week.

“Once our web site is up and running we will be starting the process. With restrictions on travel we’ll be dealing with people that are already here,” Chirico says.

He says their first year quota is 100 people.

“We think with the number of people that are presently here working in North Bay that we’ll be able to fulfill that within our first year mandate then we will move up to 250 after that,” he says.

Chirico says successful applicants will fill the areas of the economy that have labour shortages.
