North Bay Police report one of their officers was in the right place at the right time yesterday, receiving information on a stolen vehicle when the car drove past him on Fisher Street.

Police say the vehicle attempted to flee at high rate of speed but stopped a short time later on Sherbrooke Street.

Two people were taken into custody.

The 20 year old driver and 21 year old passenger, both from North Bay, are charged with vehicle theft.

The driver is also charged with dangerous operation and driving with a suspended license.

Police say a resident of Seventh Avenue went inside for a brief moment while his vehicle was running in the driveway, and when he came back out the car was gone.

As the weather begins to get colder North Bay Police want to draw the attention of our drivers to the fact that “warm-up style” thefts occur as temperatures start to drop.

Here are some tips for drivers;
– Remain with your vehicle or maintain a view of it whenever it is running
– Lock your vehicle with a spare key while it idles
– Buy a remote starter for the vehicle, which locks the doors and prevents the vehicle from being driven away without a key in the ignition
