It won’t be too long before the snow starts flying in North Bay. With that in mind, City Council are looking ahead to parts of their winter maintenance service.

Chair of Operations and Infrastructure Councillor Chris Mayne says they have awarded a contract to Canor Construction to provide snow removal services for the roof of West Ferris Arena over the next two years.

Mayne says there are a couple of reasons why this work can’t be done by the city themselves. He says after a heavy snowfall the city’s equipment is already committed to city wide projects, and they also don’t have specialized equipment to deal with the height requirements on the roof.

The contract has been awarded for just over $102,000.

The city will spend another $516,000 to award Northscapes Landscaping to provide the snow plowing, snow removal and sanding services at city operated facilities.
