The Municipality of West Nipissing is postponing the opening of the Sturgeon Falls Fitness Centre and Arena.

The Fitness Centre was scheduled to open on October 5 and then to be followed by the arena on October 13.

Both facilities, including the pool at the Community and Recreation Centre, will tentatively open now on October 19.

Officials say this move is being made due to the increase lately in COVID-19 cases in Ontario and if the trend continues they say the reopening may be further delayed.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit says any cases acquired by people who go to school here at post secondary institutions but don’t live here otherwise will be counted in the local stats.

A release says the key factor is that they live here most of the time.

There are no current active cases and the health unit encourages people to practice physical distancing, wear a face covering, wash or sanitize hands often and cough or sneeze into your sleeve.
