Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Ernie Hardeman and area farmers took part in a roundtable session on Wednesday.

The farmers from Powassan and Chisholm gave feedback on proposed regulations for the Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act.

Fedeli says this act is something farmers have been calling for and the consultations are key.

“To be able to get their ideas in for the fine tuning of the regulations. But really it’s about protecting our food supply and keeping the farms and farmers safe,” he says.

He says the act stops people who are unauthorized from entering farms.

‘It helps with farms bio security as well from people who unknowingly may risk disease in a farm,” Fedeli says.

The consultations continue until late next week.

Fedeli says a portion of the act stops anyone who interferes with a motor vehicle transporting farm animals.
