Homelessness will be front and centre at Council tonight.

It’s the topic of one public presentation being made at the virtual meeting.

The specific focus is on the impact on businesses in the downtown core.

Another presentation is also lined up, involving public art policy and public art in the city.

One of a few reports coming forward involves provincial funding for enhanced cleaning of transit vehicles and other transit assets during COVID-19.

The province is providing up to $15 million to 110 municipalities across Ontario.

Enhanced visitor screening starts today at North Bay City Hall.

Officials say it’s being done to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and potential risk to the public and staff.

On top of mandatory face coverings, everyone entering City Hall will be subject to COVID-19 screening questions and a ‘no touch’ temperature check.

Visitors experiencing symptoms or those with an elevated temperature will not be allowed in and will be advised to contact the health unit for advice.

The City’s Customer Service Centre and Provincial Offences Administration Office continue to offer in-person services weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for services including tax/water payments, parking rental sales, burn permit purchases, parking ticket payments, payment of POA fines and the completion of extensions for fine payments.

Access to residential rental housing, business, marriage and lottery licensing, as well as building plan submission and permit issuance will continue to be available by appointment.

In order to minimize line-ups, residents are encouraged to continue to use online options or the drop box outside City hall when possible.

Other health and safety precautions remain in place at City Hall, including floor markings to support physical distancing requirements, and signage to help with traffic flow and maximum occupancy.

Residents are asked to sanitize their hands and practice physical distancing while inside the building.
