We told you recently the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority was initiating a project that will include a new pedestrian bridge on Oak Street.

Councillor Chris Mayne says the city has stepped up to help pay for the project.

“The city will allocate $200,000 from budget and put it towards the bridge replacement. The conservation authority at this time expects to be able to find $85,000 from previous city revenue and will put it towards the bridge to pay for the cost of the project,” he says.

The bridge hasn’t been used since 2014 and Councillor Dave Mendicino says once complete will become part of the city’s active transportation network and that’s great news for pedestrians and cyclists.

The conservation authority says the project will also see 45 metres of Chippewa Creek at Oak Street remediated and the Kinsmen Trail Link re-established.
