The Gathering Place is putting $85,000 of provincial funding to good use.

Executive Director Dennis Chippa says the money is paying for a refrigerated truck and a walk in fridge freezer.

He told BayToday they’re looking at expanding their food rescue program to a wider area with the truck.

“We’ve already been talking about expanding into some of the First Nations communities around the area, expanding south a little but further, expanding further north and even delivering the food to areas like Powassan, Bonfield and Callander,” Chippa says.

He says the fridge freezer will enable them to store food for a longer period of time because they’ll have more space.

“If an agency needs it and they can’t get it for two or three days we’ll be able to store it because right now we don’t really have the space to store a lot of the food,” he says.

He says there’s also money for a new fridge.
