A local military member at 22 Wing CFB North Bay has been awarded the NORAD Award for Junior Non Commissioned Officer.

Warrant Officer Danette Weyh was recently recognized during the 22 Wing Honours and Awards Ceremony.

WO Weyh was born and raised on the south coast of Labrador, and joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2005.

Upon completion of her Aerospace Control Operator training at the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Control Operations, she was posted to 21 Aerospace Control & Warning Squadron (21 AC&W Sqn) at 22 Wing North Bay as a Tracking/Identification Technician.

In 2009, she was posted to the North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command (NORAD/USNORTHCOM) Command Center in Colorado Springs and shortly thereafter became the Senior Non Commissioned Member (NCM) Air Domain Evaluator for the NORAD/ USNORTHCOM Command Center.

During her time in Colorado Springs, she was a member of the NORAD/USNORTHCOM Joint Color Guard for 2 1/2 years, taking part in numerous high profile events including two Wounded Warrior games ceremonies.

In 2013, she was posted to the Combat Operations Centre at 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta, and took over as NCM in charge of Standards & Training.

In 2016, she was posted back to 21 AC&W Sqn as an Air Surveillance Technician and recently became a Mission Crew Commander Technician.

The citations reads:
Sgt Danette Weyh is an Air Surveillance Technician instructor and evaluator. Sgt Weyh conducted 3 Individual Tailored Training Plans, performed multiple evaluations, and directed the Air Surveillance Technician Squadron Training Day. She supervised over 20 personnel, was the focal point for inbound Squadron members, and selected as the alternate unit Security Supervising Officer. Sgt Weyh is from Mary’s Harbour, Labrador and loves to attend amusement parks, travel, ski and teach.
