Christmas is over a month away but it’s come early this year for the Laurentian Ski Hill.

Due to COVID-19, it’ll be more difficult to move people around so they don’t gather inside or out in close proximity to each other.

So DeGagne & Lefebvre Building Group has come to the rescue.

Francis Lefebvre told BayToday they’ve donated 12 benches which will be put outside.

“The least I could do is make a few benches to make people feel comfortable outside. The family can get a good seating area. I know the ski hill had some benches but some are in less desirable shape so I figured we could make a few benches,” he says.

General Manager Mike King says it’s great to see a local business giving back to support the community.

King told BayToday they need to create space so people don’t gather in one location so the benches will come in handy.

He says there are other benefits too.

“We’re looking at putting some warming stations outside and heaters. We have a covered awning outside the Upper Chalet that we’re going to look tp put some outdoor heaters in,” King says.

King says skiing offers benefits when people need to be physically distanced from others to stay safe.

“Skiing outdoors is naturally conducive to physical distancing. Even the length of the skis and the poles keeps people apart. It’s also a good way to get healthy mentally and physically,” he says.
