NEW opp police

Collisions involving commercial vehicles in the Northeast Region have topped 12,000 in the past two years.

That’s the word from OPP Sgt Carole Dionne.

She says it means one in two crashes in the region involved a transport in 2014.

Last year it was better, at one in three collisions involved a commercial vehicle.

Dionne also says in the past two years 27 people have lost their lives in commercial-vehicle related collisions in the northeast, including four transport drivers.

OPP and the MTO are undertaking a 24-hour enforcement and education initiative called Operation Corridor today (Thursday) to ensure commercial truck drivers are driving safely and that their trucks are properly inpsected and maintained.
