Team 1305,  The Near North District School Board’s robotics initiative has unveiled its robot for their competition in North Bay.

The robot’s name is Arcadius.

Team captain Britney Lebel says they need to perform well at that competition and the district event if they want to return to the world championships.

Britney says she wanted to get involved when she saw a live event.

“I went to my first competition 3 years ago and I wasn’t part of the team yet and I was too shy to join. I didn’t think it was an option for me. But seeing the competition live kind of got me hooked on it. I knew I had to join at that point,” she says.
She says being on 1305 has provided a lot of benefits including skills like public speaking and learning more about technology too.

The season is actually underway already.

Arcadius did very well at an event in Barrie winning 11 of its 12 matches and was part of the winning team.

Lebel says her job is to lead the team and that includes all the timelines are met so the robot is ready.

“And also that everyone has a place on the team We focus on our physical and mental health as well and that means everyone feels welcome and that’s very important,” she says.
