One person has died after a house fire on the 500 block of Front Street last night.

Platoon Chief Mike Hives says crews encountered smoke when they arrived on the scene.

“There was no flame visible from outside but when they entered they found an elderly gentleman upstairs and brought him out within three minutes of getting there,” he says. “At the time he had no vital signs, he is deceased.”

Hives says the investigation is getting underway.

“The Ontario Fire Marshal with be here this morning and conducting an investigation,” he says.

Damages to the home and contents were significant.

“We’re estimating approximately $250,000,” Hives says.

Crews were called to the fire just before 9:30 pm last night.
