Canada is 10-0 and has secured a playoff spot at the 2018 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship at Memorial Gardens.

This after Jennifer Jones’ rink won their games against Russia and Italy yesterday.

“It’s nice to be in the position we are in, so we can really focus on being comfortable out there and hopefully pull off a couple more wins,” says Jones.

The team’s third Kaitlyn Lawes says they’re still focused on one game at a time.

“The biggest thing is we want to keep learning and see what the ice is doing heading into playoffs, we’re really excited that we’re in a playoff position,” she says.

Tonight is military appreciation night at the 2018 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship.

22 Wing Logistics and Engineering Officer Major Christian Palavicino says it’s quite the honour from Curling Canada and the World Curling Federation.

“We’re definitely privileged to witness such a show of support to, not only our military members, but also their families from the local community and visitors to North Bay,” he says.

Canada is taking on the United States tonight.

Major Palavicino says it’s fitting, pointing out the two countries have long shared a working relationship locally.

“We’re about to celebrate our 60th anniversary together with the United States Air Force with NORAD, in service to not only Canada, but North America in general, so we are very proud members of the community,” he says.

While fans may already be wearing red to support Canada, they’re being encouraged to do so to show apprecation for the military too.

Members from 22 Wing, the Algonquin Regiment and 33 Service Battalion will be on hand, with military members carrying in the team placards for tonight’s draw.

Canada plays Japan this morning at 9 am then the U.S. tonight at 7 pm.
