Last week Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli spoke at Queen’s Park and delivered a letter to the Premier which touched on the issue of the current labour disputes.

Once again today (Wednesday) Fedeli raised the same concerns that nothing was being resolved with the ONTC, the hospital cuts and the University faculty strike.

Fedeli says “you have created strife at our hospital, Ontario Northland and our university.”

Fedeli asked “what is the Premier going to do to preserve the vitality of the University over the long term.”

Just like last week, Minister of Labour Kevin Flynn responded by saying they are committed to supporting Ontario’s post-secondary system.

He says “each university by its nature is an autonomous institution. It’s got responsibility, it’s reached a mature level where it handles its own labour relations, it handles its own HR issues and that includes collective bargaining.”

Flynn says the record of success the province has through this process shows him this is the right thing to do.

Meantime, Fedeli also read an online student petition (which now has more than 3,000 signatures) on the Nipissing University dispute in the Legislature Wednesday afternoon.
