The NTS Drama Festival regionals start Thursday at West Ferris Secondary School.

Publicity Coordinator Tony Butticci says over 3 nights there will be 8 performances.

“There’s 1 from Almaguin, there’s 4 from North Bay, there’s 1 from Kirkland Lake, 1 from Timmins and 1 from Temiskaming,” he says.
The four North Bay schools represented are Algonquin, Widdifield, West Ferris and St Joseph-Scollard Hall.

Performace times are 7 pm Thursday and Friday and 6 pm on Saturday followed by the awards ceremony.

Butticci says two schools from the north will move on to the provincials.

Tickets are available at the door. They’re $10 for adults and $7 for students.

Butticci says in addition to the theatrical work the students get a lot out of taking part in an event like this.

“It helps with time management because you only have a certain amount of time to get things ready and it helps with public speaking skills and being able to communicate with people,” Butticci says.

The former Sears Drama Festival is now known as The NTS Drama Festival and that stands for National Theatre School.
