A major shot in the arm for North Bay‘s entertainment industry

Reel World Management, which is just wrapping up shooting of the film “Deadly Secrets by the Lake”, has committed itself to filming 6 more movies here.

Executive producer Roma Roth says they chose North Bay because the city has a certain look..

“A lot of lakes and beautiful surroundings, not that Sudbury’s not beautiful but it has a completely different look, and I wanted to establish a setting that we would be returning too.”

The projects will bring $14-million in direct economic investment and create hundreds of jobs.

But, that wasn’t their only announcement.

Roth says they want to film year round here and to do it they will need a permanent space.

“(It) doesn’t have to be something that we’re going to build from scratch, but we’re looking for buildings that can accommodate production space as well as studio space for our shows.”

Mayor Al McDonald says North Bay has a natural environment that’s ideal for shooting movies.

He also says North Bay is doing well in attracting filmmakers because there’s public support for it and having a permanent structure will be key for the city to continue to attract filmmakers.

“We need that infrastructure here, it provides experience for the actors, actresses, the film crews, carpenters, caterers, hotels.  That critical infrastructure is necessary for building a sustainable industry.”

Deadly Secrets by the Lake” stars Stefanie Von Pfetten (Cracked), Steven Byers (Slasher) and Tahmoh Penikett (Battle Star Galactica).

The movie, currently shooting in North Bay, is being produced as part of a slate of original scripted shows, with A+E Networks, Harlequin Books and Corus Entertainment and will air across A+E Network’s channels and content partners globally.
