The city is using the latest analytics information to run its fleet of vehicles.

We talked to John Ouellette, the fleet manager at the city public works facility on Franklin St.

He says they have a fleet management system with information on every vehicle.

“If you have 160 rolling stock and 400 components it’s hard to manage that without an electronic system that gives you the cost of labour and the cost of parts,” Ouellette says.

He says they repair the North Bay Transit fleet, but also many other city vehicles and supply fuel to all the vehicles at their fuel farm too.

The new electronic system was installed in February.

Meantime, Ouellette says they do have have a need for mechanics.

“We don’t just do one specific vehicle. We have many vehicles. We have transit vehicles, fire trucks, an aerial and a loader. With all these unique vehicles we put a lot of training into these employees so they can become versatile and deal with all the vehicles,” he says.
