The North Bay Regional Health Centre foundation has launched the public fundraising portion of the Cancer Care Close to Home campaign.

Close to $3.8 million has been raised so far with a goal of $6 million.

Foundation President and CEO Tammy Morison tells BayToday the Cancer Care Close to Home campaign is all about providing needed medical equipment in a number of areas.

“We are going to be having a second CT Scanner because of this community campaign, which will allow us to roll out some new screening programs for high-risk populations, for patients at high risk of cancers,” she says.

There’s also upgraded equipment in labs, telemedicine equipment, surgical and endoscopy equipment and equipment to support palliative care.

Campaign co-chair Barb Minogue tells BayToday they’ll become the state-of-the-art, diagnostic, screening hospital for a community our size.

“They are getting the best equipment in for early detection, early diagnosis so that when you have a problem, we can figure it out right away and if they can treat it here, fine, there’s a lot more surgeries they can do now,” she says.
