Mike Anthony

Council lowering the number of seats around the council table was a hot topic a few weeks ago. While it didn’t get approved, one Councillor who was in favour of the motion is Mike Anthony.

He joined Matthew Sookram on Council Capsule this morning and says he saw some positives within this motion.

One motion still on the council table is the idea of remuneration for the sitting council members. Anthony says it’s not something he would support.

Anthony says if the majority of council had a different view he says “there’s no way it should go into effect before the next term.”

Meantime, they also talked about water meter rates and Anthony says there are some items that could still be up for discussion, even as council is moving forward with the water supply by-laws. He says he would like to see a winter rate period.

Anthony says this would hopefully erase the large amount of people who end up with frozen pipes.

As well they discussed job cuts around the city and Anthony was asked what council could do to reverse that trend.

Anthony adds they need to keep doing what they can to bring in new opportunities and he points to the film industry, aerospace sector and the growing commercial sector on McKeown Avenue.
