The community arena in Astorville has received over $41,000 from the former North Himsworth Athletic Association.

The organization was very active in the 70’s and they raised close to $80,000 to support a new arena in Callander.
That never happened but Mark Rich who was on the association says the donation makes a lot of sense.

“Basically half is coming to this arena because for all the youth in Callander this is their home for ice sports including hockey, figure skating and public skating,” he says.

He says the rest will be going to the new to be built arena in North Bay as many Callander residents use facilities there too.

East Ferris Mayor Bill Vrebosch says the money will be used to help pay for a new ice resurfacer.
