Thousands of area residents are still being impacted by Friday morning’s high winds and rainfall.

According to their website, Hydro One reports over 8, 000 customers (as of 11 am) are still without power, with reports of outages stretching from Mattawa through Port Loring and south into Almaguin. Restoration times vary.

North Bay Hydro says 2,500 people were left without power.  Most were back online in the afternoon Friday.

Just after 9 am Friday, the system brought high winds and plenty of rain, knocking down trees, hydro poles and power lines in the city and across the region.

14.3 millimetres of rain was recorded Friday at the airport.  According to the hourly conditions, most of that rain fell between 7 am and 10 am.

A two hour wind warning Friday morning included the potential for wind gusts up to 100 km/h. Gusts at 9 am were recorded at 53 km/h at the airport.

There’s no information for 10 am and 11 am.

North Bay Police closed Lakeshore Drive, from Birches Road to Highway 11, for a couple hours Friday to allow for the clean-up while flooding forced the closure of a portion of Chippewa Street for a time.  The water quickly receded.

City fire fighters and public works crews were extremely busy, being dispatched to several calls and various parts of the city.
