Parking lot #2 (b)

The city recently changed the parking system for municipal lot 2 on Oak Street West.

Pay and display machines are now set up instead of a parking attendant.

But, there have been some concerns on social media about line-ups lasting upwards of 10 minutes and confusion with the machines.

A vehicle’s license plate number needs to be entered, which ties in to the lot offering two hours free parking for the first entry.

The city’s Facilities and Parking Supervisor Robin Cameron says there is signage about that, but also says volume is something that’s on their radar.

“We’ll probably give it a month to collect some data about the number of users using the machines.”

He goes on to say, “if necessary we can place another pay and display in the lot if we feel there’s too long a wait time.”

Cameron says they’re also looking to install shelters around the two pay and display machines this week to keep people out of the elements.

He also says the lots face the sun. “We’ve had some concerns that it’s hard to read the displays.”

He says the shelters may help, but if not they may look at installing a shaded section to it. Also of note, there have been no changes to the hourly parking rate.
