The rain has helped the hundreds of fire crews battling forest fires in a few areas of the Northeast, including the Temagami cluster.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says several fires continue to burn there, but fire activity was greatly reduced because of the rain.

Crews battling a 27,579 hectare fire in the Lady Evelyn area also got some help from the rain.

In the River Valley Cluster, two fires there are now being held.

A variety of evacuations remain in place with Parry Sound 33.

The Ministry says of the 55 active forest fires in the northeast region, 21 are not under control.

They also say the restricted fire zone for the entire Northeast has been extended into Renfrew, Parry Sound and areas further north as well.
