The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority says there was a black bear sow and cubs sighting yesterday at the Laurentian Escarpment Conservation area.

That’s near Janey Avenue.

The public is advised to be bear wise if you’re hiking or biking in the area.

A sign is in place for 72 hours following the initial sighting advising those who use the trails.

If you see a bear contact the conservation authority and if it’s an emergency call 911.

For information on being bearwise check out the Ministry of Natural Resources bearwise website.
