Local landlords have been getting their message out in recent days.

They’ve shown local media what some tenants are doing to their buildings and they’re lobbying politicians too.

Last week, city council passed a motion calling on the province to essentially balance the playing field between tenants and landlords.

The landlords want the eviction process to be faster and to be paid back if there’s substantial damage to their units.

Tricia Marshall helps run several local rental properties.

“I’m excited that more people are listening to us. We’ve been beating our heads against a brick wall the last number of years and no no one listened or cared,” she says.

She told BayToday they’ve met with MPP Vic Fedeli and council passed a motion calling on the province to provide assistance in a number of areas including policies that would protect landlords, ways of penalizing those that cause willful damage and ways to allow landlords to better recoup costs.

“It’s exciting to see that council has put a motion forward but it’s a provincial matter so we need Fedeli to help us,” Marshall says.
