There’s still 60 days until election day and the mayoral race in North Bay is heating up.

Incumbent Al McDonald has responded to criticism by candidate Gary Gardiner about leadership.

McDonald says he has been a leader in this community in more ways, and for more years, as a private citizen and as Mayor than any other candidate seeking the Mayor’s office.

On top of serving as mayor, deputy mayor and MPP he points to being involved in several causes, from leading the ‘Save the Cents’ and Save the Ski Hill campaigns to fighting for jobs at the ONTC.

McDonald will officially launch his campaign and outline his platform next month.

He promises a plan that will overhaul how council works.

Meantime, we told you the other day that mayoral candidate Mike Guillemette has decided to withdraw from the race.

However, BayToday says the city clerk advises that Guillemette missed the deadline for taking his name off the ballot.
