OPP have issued a release saying they have been called in to assist West Nipissing Police with a homicide investigation.

They say two people, including the 46 year old male who was being sought by the West Nipissing Police Service, have been located deceased.

OPP also say a 59 year old female who was also involved in the altercation was transported to hospital where she is being treated for critical injuries. 

The North East Region Crime Unit and the West Nipissing Police Service are continuing the investigation. 

OPP also say with the SIU being called in, no further information will be released. 

Earlier, the SIU only mentioned it was investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 46-year-old man in Sturgeon Falls.

The SIU says police responded to gunshots at a Leblanc Road residence Sunday night, and following an interaction with police the man fled into a wooded area. 

He was located, deceased, at 2:06 am, having suffered a gunshot wound.

UPDATE (11am)

Province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 46-year-old man last night in Sturgeon Falls.

Preliminary information suggests a woman called 911 around 8pm, reporting shots had been fired on her property on Leblanc Road.

West Nipissing Police and Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to the home.  When they arrived there was an interaction between police officers and a man.

The SIU says the man fled into a wooded area, and was located, deceased, at 2:06 a.m.  He suffered a gunshot wound.

Highway 17 West in Sturgeon Falls is back open after an active shooter situation closed the roadway last night (Sunday).

West Nipissing Police reported a shooting, involving two people, in the Leblanc Road area of Sturgeon Falls.

There’s no word on the victim’s condition.

Police were contacted just after 8 pm, and were searching for a 46 year old man.

Residents in the Drive In Road and Leblanc Road area were advised to lock their doors and windows and remain inside.

OPP tweeted at 3 am that the highway was back open and affected residents should contact West Nipissing Police about returning to their homes.

West Nipissing Police issued a release this morning saying the Special Investigations Unit has been contacted and there is no public safety concern.
