North Bay fire crews will have access to life-saving medication in case they arrive to an opioid overdose call before paramedics.

In partnership with the Health Unit, Naloxone is being put on board firefighting apparatus.

Officials say it’s in response to the ongoing ‘opioid crisis in the province’.

They say overdose is currently the third leading cause of accidental death in Ontario with one death by overdose every 13 hours.
