The Maria MacMillan Endowment Fund has handed out grants that will improve patient programs at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

The fund was set up by the MacMillan family and the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation.

The recipients of the grants totalling $2,800 include

WRAP for Youth – Child & Adolescent Mental Health Unit: A $560 grant will purchase materials for this supportive training program for youth, focused on managing their mental illness. It is a recovery model based on – Hope / Self Advocacy / Education / Self-Responsibility.
On Unit Activity Support for Patients – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit: a $300 grant will support the purchase of art and culinary supplies for art therapy and fostering life skills.
Distress Tolerance Tools – Mental Health Clinic: A $550 grant will support the Graduation Group Therapy Program Distress Tolerance Box Project. Clients utilize items to manage their emotions and keep this box as part of their wellness plan.
Reducing Barriers Through Transportation – Mental Health Clinic: A $540 grant will purchase bus passes for clients to attend therapy, reducing the barrier of transportation to access mental health services.
Developing Therapeutic Groups – Assertive Community Treatment Team: an $850 grant will support the development of five therapeutic groups that will help clients live independent and productive lives in the community.

Maria MacMillan passed away in 2006.
