North Bay Police are advising residents there have been a number of complaints of bear sightings in the area.

They say the outer edges of North Bay and Callander are surrounded by bush and bears are part of the natural wildlife habitat so expect the odd visitor to come this time of the year.

Police say call 911 if a bear poses an immediate threat to personal safety and call the Bear Wise reporting line for non emergencies.

(motorist)

A 35 year old North Bay man is facing several charges after an incident involving a motorist on Tuesday in the 200 block of Main Street West.

Police say officers attempted to stop a vehicle.

Police say their direction was ignored by the motorist and the vehicle drove away in an erratic manner.

Police say the vehicle was abandoned and a foot chase began downtown.

Police say one of their officers was assaulted during the chase and eventually an arrest was made.

The charges include failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving while disqualified and assaulting a police officer.
