The opposition NDP says northeastern Ontario families are wondering why they’re going through another winter without seeing the Northlander return.

That question was put to the government yesterday (Monday) at Queens Park by MPP John Vanthof.

“You guys have a slogan-promise made but in the case of northerners it’s more like promise maybe,” he says.

He says during the election campaign the PC’s promised if elected the Northlander would return and he’s still waiting.

Greg Rickford is the Minister of Energy, Mines, Northern Development and Indigenous Affairs.

He says the government is in the process of developing a northern transportation strategy and he looks forward to the NDP’s support when its released.

“There are people across Northern Ontario who need to rely on bus services with washrooms in them to get to small towns, to and from medical appointments to safe highways to transport people and products,” Rickford says.
