City Hall “If there’s less seats there’s got to be a little less work. If I have to pick up extra committees it’s going to be tough.

That’s Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette commenting on the idea of having two less seats around the council table.

Forgette did move the motion forward but he says there’s still plenty to be discussed in terms of workload for only eight Councillors, if Council decides to cut two positions during the next municipal election.

He originally wanted to keep the motion at the committee level, but at the last minute moved it forward anyway.

Council will vote to cut down to eight positions next term, during Monday’s council meeting.

Council streamingMeantime, should North Bay City Councillors be given a raise on their annual salaries?

That was the question on the table at last night’s (Monday) Committee Meeting.

Councillor Derek Shogren says he’s worried about the kind of people that will run if there isn’t monetary incentive, especially for the Mayor’s Chair.

CAO Jerry Knox was asked if there would be a decrease in quality candidates during election time if there was no pay increase.

Knox says there would be more of an appreciation from residents if they knew the time and work put in by Councillors and the Mayor.

The CAO will bring back a report to give council some comparables to other cities in the province.
