This week is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week and the North Bay Fire Department and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority has teamed up to highlight safety.

Captain of fire prevention with the North Bay Fire Department Sherri Korn says they will be showing off a carbon monoxide safety home Saturday from 9:30-6 at the Northgate Shopping Centre.

She says it’s a full scale house on wheels so people can learn about the potential dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning in their home.

“It is one of the leading causes of accidental deaths and poisonings in Ontario every year with over 65 % of those incidents occurring in the home. I think people are learning and getting the message about the silent killer,” she says.

Meantime, it’s time to change your clocks.

So on Sunday morning move your clocks back 1 hour.

Korn says it’s also a reminder to change the batteries in your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detectors but check the expiration dates too.
