The use of Phos-Chek, which is used to simulate snow in filming, is under review in the City of Greater Sudbury.

North Bay has suspended it’s use.

When contacted by our newsroom, City of Greater Sudbury Communications and French Services Advisor Shelley Ahmed provided the following statement:

“We are currently reviewing use of this product in filming, and we are working with industry stakeholders to ensure it is safely handled by productions working here in Greater Sudbury, with proper materials handling and clean-up procedures. Staff are also looking at alternative products that can be used to produce the “fake snow” effect with appropriate review by municipal staff with expertise in Health & Safety and Risk Management.
We will continue to work with our northern colleagues in the film industry on best approaches to monitoring its use in support of this important and growing industry.”

Economic development officials tell Sudbury.com they’ve temporarily put a halt to the use while they took a closer look.

Earlier this week, officials with the City of North Bay issued a release on it’s decision to suspend the use of the Phos-Chek.

North Bay said the decision was made after careful review and investigation of potential impacts.
