With the latest blast of winter set to hit the region, The Weather Network says we can expect more of it for the rest of the season in the North Bay area.

“I think that really is a preview of the winter we have in store,” says Meteorologist Michael Carter. “We’re expecting a lot of cold air on the map this year across Ontario, frequent storms, plenty of snow, so a potentially long and cold winter ahead of us.”

He says when it’s all said and done the North Bay area can expect a near-normal amount of snow, with more in areas that experience lake-effect snow.

“The temperatures we do expect to be below normal this year thanks to the patterns that we do have setting up across North America, so we do certainly expect those temperatures to remain on the cold side throughout the winter season,” he says.

Carter says it’s early but they don’t see any signs of an abbreviated winter.

“That is some good news for the folks who do enjoy the outdoor activities and like to get out and snowmobile, snow shoe, cross country ski, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to do that,” he says.
